President’s House is that famous building of India which
is the official home of our President of India.
Earlier, our former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee used
to live in the President’s house and now our present President Shri Ramnath
Kovind is residing in the President’s house.
Do you know, The President’s house took Seventeen (17)
years to complete, where our President contributes his life & services to
the Country for our security.
The moment of laying the foundation of President’s house,
our Country was the slave and under the Englishmen.
In December 12,
1911, British decided to relocate the capital of India from Calcutta to
Delhi, then the new palace for the Viceroy of India was
given an enormous size & prominent position and work had been started.
The work of this building was started in 1911 and The
Viceregal Lodge was completed largely by 1929.
The structure includes 700 million bricks and the total
estimate to build this house was approximate 1.5 Cr.
We finally got the freedom from British and on 26 January
1950, when Rajendra Prasad became the first President of India and occupied this
building, it was renamed as Rashtrapati Bhavan – the President's House. Before
that the building was known as Viceregal Lodge.
After the Rajendra Prasad, every president was allotted
to stay in Rashtrapati Bhawan – President’s House.
Interesting fact is the President does not reside in the
main building but in the guest wing.
The reason behind this is our last Governer General Chakravarti Rajagopalachari.
When the moment Governer General C. Rajagopalachari came to reside in
President’s house, he opted to stay in the guest wing, that was bit small but
he liked that the most, and this tradition is followed by all subsequent
presidents.
The building of President’s house has a floor area of
around 200,000 square feet and all work had been done with stones with little
steel. This building is consisting of 4 floors and 340 rooms.
Rashtrapati Bhawan has many halls and the first hall is
Durbar hall, which is very adorable and beautiful.
This is here in this building where our first Prime
Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru took the oath of office of Prime Minister of
Independent India.
Interesting fact is this that the chair of President has
just a Buddha Statue next to it and it is in a perfectly straight line to the
India Gate at the end of Rajpath.
President house is located on the top of Raisina Hill,
that was the part of Rajasthan. Raisina hill was offered to make this building.
Residence of body guards and other staff is here in the
President’s house only.
There are almost 440 posts are for employ. There are
approx 347 families under the land & acquisition.
Mughal Garden in President's House is opened to the public in February every year. It has more than 500 great varieties of
flowers. There are almost 125 varieties of roses only.
Here you can see, Musical Garden, Spiritual Garden, and
